I am sitting in a row of 8 cubicles facing the window: the natural habitat for the North American Corporate Cube Monkey. People at the office think I'm very serious because at work I'm pretty much all business. If only they knew. I am dreaming of what I will be doing once I leave the office. I say screw it and leave the office.
Mods 1, 2, and 3: Invidia Downpipe, TIG welded 02 Bung, Ceramic Coating
About a month ago I bought an Invidia Downpipe at a Subaru meet. A downpipe is the part of the exhaust that sits directly behind the turbo. Invidia would normally be out of my reach price wise but since I got it used I could swing it.
Like a lot of car geeks, I want to experiment with tuning my car myself. One of the requirements to do that is to have a wideband oxygen sensor (02 sensor) which tells you what your air fuel ratio is. This isn’t necessary on all vehicles but on Turbo cars it’s a must if you want to change anything about the engine.
Your average downpipe for a Suby at this point comes with a pre-welded bung for an 02 sensor. The Invidia didn’t, and it’s cast steel (which only a welding shop and a TIG welder can deal with) so I stopped off to see a guy I use for that kind of thing after work.
In what should have been a foreshadowing of the weekend ahead the welder dropped the bung right over his cutting table and we had to spend 20 minutes sifting through metal shards to find it. I ceramic coated the downpipe when I got home with VHT 2000 Degree header paint.
6:30PM: After dinner I begin tearing my car apart in preparation for the next days festivities. Here is my car in pristine condition before I begin tearing it apart:

Aaaand After:

8:30PM: I call it a night and go hang out with the wife since I won't see her much this weekend.
